Review - Lick by Kylie Scott

Thank you to Pan MacMillan/Net Galley for kindly providing me with an ARC

Paperback Release: 8th May 2014

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this...
Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong.

Now if she could just remember how it all happened.
One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll's favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

I have read my fair share of tortured rock god books over the years (yes Kellan Kyle I am talking about you, you too Jake Wethers!) and I can hand over heart say I love them.

If there is a cover with a guitar and a tattooed rock god then I am going to give it a good once over, These books can be phenomenal if done properly and they form part of a series.

Kylie Scott's book is the first in a series with Lick being the first novel.

So is Lick any good?

Yes, Yes it is!

Celebrating her birthday in Las Vegas with her best friend Lauren was going to be a fun wild trip for Evelyn but she never dreamt in a minute she would wake up next to a man, who she married whilst drunk and oh just happens to be a mega huge rock star, David Ferris from Stage Dive.

One problem though, she cannot remember a single thing about it.

I love how this book goes straight in, and the first couple of pages deal with the morning after the night before, we learn that yes they got married and David seems to remember it all, he is less than happy that Evelyn remembers nothing but on the plus side she does have a shiny diamond on her finger and a tattoo on her ass of his name!

She wants to have nothing to do with him and flies back to Portland with Lauren, on arrival at the airport she is greeted by the paparazzi and Stage Dive fans who through the power of the press have discovered their hero has got married in Vegas.  She makes it to her parents house but they are surrounded by the paps and fans too.

David contacts her and tells her to come to LA so they can sort out the annulment of the marriage, she reluctantly goes, if only to take the pressure of her parents.  On arrival she arrives at what sounds like Stage Dive's version of the Playboy Mansion and is greeted by less the friendly assistant Martha and also a less than enthusiastic David.

She sees him at his worst here, she also meets his brother Jimmy who is the singer in the band and Mal the drummer.

The following day she is set upon by David's manager and lawyers who try and get her to agree to a settlement but she is having none of it and runs, saved by Mal he takes her in and looks after her until David comes and takes her away to cool down and get to know him.

We see a sweet, caring side of David but he is jealous, a little possessive and is definitely keeping something from Evelyn.

The story continues with Evelyn getting to know David a heck of a lot better and yes it is another book with instalove but it works well and yes there is more to the story than them just falling in love - Jimmy has addictions, Martha has secrets and so does David, the rest of the book deals with what happens when you don't tell someone the whole story and what you do to try and fix it.

My only problem with this book was I really needed a better description of Evelyn, I could make out she was certainly not skinny, I think she was tall and about three quarters of the way through I discovered she had blonde hair, maybe could have been made clearer at the beginning.

It is certainly a fab read and David Ferris can quite happily sit on my shelf next next to Kellan and Jake!

Lick is awarded 4 out of 5
