Review - Storm by Brigid Kemmerer

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC

UK release date 17th April 2014
Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys; all the ones she doesn't want. When she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot, everything is about to change. Chris is different from the guys at school... really different. He can control water just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. The brothers are powerful and dangerous. And now that Becca knows the truth, so is she.
When the mysterious new kid, Hunter, turns up, Becca thinks she can trust him. But when he goes head-to-head with Chris, Becca's left wondering who's hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

Storm is the start of the Elemental series* a series that has been predominantly available in the US and is now coming to the UK this Thursday the 17th.

Now I am a total sucker for a supernatural story with some romance thrown in and I am a little bored with vamps and wolves so this book is a breath of fresh air to the genre.

Featuring the Merrick brothers, they are super hot and also super dangerous, they can control the elements, Michael (Earth) is the oldest and the head of the family following the death of their parents, he is charge of his two wayward twin brothers Gabriel(Fire) and Nick(Air) and the baby of the family is Chris(Water), this book revolves around him.

They live with constant aggro from their fellow elementals in town who try to make the brothers lose control of their powers which would bring the guides to town to deal with them and as the brothers are extra powerful they are extra dangerous and some people have old scores to settle with them.

We meet Becca who lives happily with her mother and her ever present best friend Quinn - her father has left years before, leaving a self defence class one night she sees Chris being attacked and comes to his rescue by driving her car at the attackers, finally escaping she takes him home and there she meets the rest of the family but Michael is unwelcoming and very suspicious of her and throws her out.

Becca is intrugued by Chris and the the feeling is mutual but she is distracted by the arrival of the mysterious Hunter, a misfit compared to the rest of the student body, but one hell of a hot misfit and he is instantly drawn to Becca which of course makes Chris jealous.

The rest of the book deals with the incidents that make the brothers use their powers which unfortunately for them leaves them at the mercy of the guides who arrive in town to deal with them, this also coincides with unwelcome return of Becca's father.

Becca is caught up in the middle of it all and she has problems of her own from her past.  She is attracted to both Chris and Hunter which creates a love triangle, but who will she trust as they both seem to be keeping secrets from her.

The ending is great and has a distressing scene with Becca, who will come to her rescue will it be Chris or Hunter?

This is a great story and I loved the description of the elements was great especially the scene involving an accident at a bridge but the only thing I did not like about this book was Quinn she was a lovely girl but she was a little on the selfish side and I really wanted to give her a slap from time to time.

I cannot wait to read the next book and see what brother it revolves around, a great new series!

Awarded 4 out of 5

*There is the prequel novella Elemetal for some background

  1. Eeek! "The ending is great and has a distressing scene with Becca, who will come to her rescue will it be Chris or Hunter?" Now, I;m so curious...I love the sound of the elementals in this (and romance) too. I'm also a total sucker for a supernatural story with some romance thrown in;) This is my first time seeing this book, so I'm excited to check it out. Thanks and great review, Heather :)

  2. Hi, it's a really great book, and looking at Brigid's page on Goodread's there is a book for each of the brothers, I hope there isn't to much of a gap between books!
Thanks so much for your kind words and for stopping by !
