REVIEW - After Me Comes The Flood By Sarah Perry

Thank you to Serpent's Tail for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review

Before I even tell you about the inside of this book I need to bring your attention to the outside, In the flesh (I have the paperback copy)the cover really is a thing of beauty, it's simple but so effective, it really draws your eyes.  It kinda reminds me of Reggie Perrin (maybe too old a reference for some of my readers - Google it!) going in to the water!

This review is going to be short and sweet, why? Because After Me Comes The Flood is a book you really need to immerse yourself in and no review I write will be able to do it justice.

John Cole drives out of London one hot day, he is walking out on his life, putting the city behind him. Unfortunately his car breaks down on the side of the road and he leaves it behind to seek help.

He hopes to find a house to make a call for assistance but what he finds bewilders him totally, a child calls out to him calling him by name, she was expecting him, she seems to know who he is but he has never met her before.  He goes with her to her home and meets the rest of her "family" men and women, an odd bunch, they welcome John with open arms treating him like a long lost family member.

Who are these people and why do they appear to know him?

Well all I can say is as the story progresses you find out more about John and the inhabitants of this house and why they are there and why they appear to know him.

This book reads extremely well, If you like all of your books sweet and fluffy then this will not be for you but if you like your books with a touch of mystery combined with a cast of enigmatic strangers and a gorgeous setting then you will enjoy this book.

After Me Comes The Flood is awarded 4 out of 5
