The Book of Ivy (The Book of Ivy #1)
Release Date: 4th November 2014
Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:

After a brutal nuclear war, the United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group in a yearly ritual.

This year, it is my turn.

My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s son—my soon-to-be husband—and restore the Westfall family to power.

But Bishop Lattimer is either a very skilled actor or he’s not the cruel, heartless boy my family warned me to expect. He might even be the one person in this world who truly understands me. But there is no escape from my fate. I am the only one who can restore the Westfall legacy.

Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…

REVIEW

The Book of Ivy is a compelling read, I love a good dystopia and this one did not disappoint, the story of Ivy and her chosen husband Bishop is such a great story, ticking all the boxes - young leads, post apoc setting, people making new rules to lead their lives and the rich lording over the poor.

Ivy is a descendant of one of the original founders of their town, because of the low population each child at sixteen has to marry but not a partner of their choosing, one that has been predetermined for them.

Ivy is to marry Bishop the son of the current leader of their town, something she dreads, she has been given a task by her sister and father to get to know Bishop and his family and provide them with information that will help them bring their family back to the rightful place in charge of their town.

Off course things do not go to plan, Bishop is not an arrogant young man like Ivy thought he would be, and slowly but surely she becomes comfortable around him, she realises he is nothing like his terrible mother and father, he wants to escape this life that has been decided for them.

Ivy realises she is starting to fall for him, her final task is the cruelest of all, she has to kill him, but will she betray the family she loves or kill the man she is beginning to love?

Book of Ivy has a great setting, a town surrounded by a fence, the USA decimated at the coast by nukes, everybody is safe in their town but if you put a foot wrong you are thrown on to the other side of the fence.

What decision will Ivy make? To find out pick up your copy now!

About the Author

Amy Engel was born in Kansas and after a childhood spent bouncing between countries (Iran, Taiwan) and states (Kansas; California; Missouri; Washington, D.C.), she settled in Kansas City, Missouri, where she lives with her husband and two kids. Before devoting herself full-time to motherhood and writing, she was a criminal defense attorney, which is not quite as exciting as it looks on TV. When she has a free moment, she can usually be found reading, running, or shoe shopping. The Book of Ivy is her debut YA novel. Find her online at http://amyengel.net/ or @aengelwrites.

  1. Yay, I'm glad you loved this as well! What a terrific start to the series, and Ivy and Bishop are such fantastic characters. And Bishop *swoons* is serious book-boyfriend material. And the ending - I NEED the next in the series. Such a climax and cliffie ending. I'm so curious what is beyond the fence.
    Wonderful review :)
