The Sunday Post #14 - 23rd August 2015

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I'm gonna recap my week and give you an idea of what I have coming up plus anything else newsworthy!

Hey everybody! Hope you are all fine and dandy!

This week has been extremely boring, I wish I had something mega exciting to tell you, I'm sorry!

In fact the most exciting moment of my week was the kids going back to school, just hold on a minute whilst I find a Tina Fey pic to cover that one.....

Yep, that old favourite will do it, they are back to school and they are tired, thank the Lord!!

We watched as our first ever film on Netflix, we have only got the free month trial at the moment.  We thought we would give it a try as our Sky Digital has been playing up. It seems to have plenty of choice and 22 Jump Street was one I watched 10 minutes of on a plane last year and then got distracted so it was good to see it in full - I loved it!!

In other news I accidentally fell on Amazon (again) and bought some books including the second Lunar Chronicles book, I haven't actually read the first book yet but it was at a crazy price it was rude not too!

On my blog I am much quieter, but good quieter I think I made the rookie mistake of signing up for every blog tour, cover reveal and blast going.

Over the last 8 months I have dramatically reduced my involvement which is sad. I still work with some great tour companies but I found it was just too much to have umpteen blasts and reveals over the week.

Anyhoo have a good week everybody!

I have nothing in the diary!!
So expect reviews and rambling!

There is a lot to choose from and I can't wait to dive in! Any suggestions welcome!

I have received physical and e-copies of some fab books this week, thank you to all the publishers for sending them! Also some of them are my own purchases, the pics link to Goodreads for you to find out more!

BOUGHT FROM AMAZON

NETGALLEY HAUL!

Let me know if you have read any of them!

Happy Sunday!

  1. Glad you found Scarlet at a good price! I really want to finish Cinder. I agree about the book tours! I thought that would be a great way to stay on top if new trends, releases, emerging talents but it has not been what I expected. I may take a long break from events

    1. It was a steal at £2!! That is exactly what I thought too but with a couple of exceptions of people I love working with, I will find out trends, releases by myself!

  2. What a great week, you had some fun posts! Congrats on the award, and Monopoly is a favorite of mine too. I love Netflix, no commercials and even tho they don't always have the biggest movie I might want to see, I usually find something. :)

I love LotR too, great answers! Have an awesome weekend...

LotR is just immense, I love it, I feel a themed post coming on for it!

  3. LOL, yes in the beginning we all make the mistake of taking on too much Heather. I imagine millions of parents high-fived angels this week. I love my children and enjoyed the long lazy days of summer but after so many weeks they needed to go back for all of our sakes! Enjoy your week.

  4. SCARLET YAS! One of my favourite books in the series! Oh, and not every week has to be amazing. I know what you mean about blog tours and all. I limit the ones that I do, because throwing too many out there can be difficult to keep up with and also hard for readers sometimes :)

  6. LOL, ah, yes, I remember that feeling when my son would go back to school. This year didn't have that excitement since he went to college. Okay, maybe a little :D I love 21 AND 22 Jump Street ... and Netflix. lol. Have a great week and enjoy your books!

College, I dream of the day my two go to college, I love them but they are hard work and they aren't even teens yet!

  7. I think we all made that rookie mistake! I rarely do blog tours now though (maybe 3 a year at most) as I don't like having to meet deadlines. It adds pressure and I just don't want that.
    Your gifs made me laugh!

  10. I hear you on the reduced involvment : when we start, we want to do everything, but we soon realize it's simply not possible when you also have to live ;:) My kids aren't back to school yet but I'm secretly awaiting it - I love them, but more free time for me ! On Netflix, I'm currently watching Daredevil and loving it a lot more than Arrow. Enjoy Rivers of London and have a great week-end ;)

Rivers of London came to me through reading The Rook (review soon) which is of a similar type.

  12. Sometimes those unexciting weeks are nice as well. Lots of people seem to love netflix, I never tried it as we don't watch enough tv for that. I hope you'll enjoy the free trial. It muts be nice to have the kids back to school again.
When I first started blogging I also made that mistake to sign-up for too many tours, now I only sign-up for a few. Although I love blog tours I prefer to only sign-up for books I read or want to read.
    I hope you'll have a great week!

    1. It is so nice for them to be back. You could waste hours watching tv, so I try not to watch too much but I do love the Great British Bake Off it satisfies my baking urges!

Exactly, I want to do books that I love and want to read (I may be visiting the Lola's Blog Tour site!!!)

  13. I have really been considering getting Netflix myself and 22 Jump Street is a great film to start off with! I myself can't wait to get back to university but I'm also anxiously awaiting the day my little sister goes back to school! I have been very good in staying way from Amazon and Netgally, so no new boks for me! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great upcoming week!

  14. Amazon gets me periodically. You're right about sometimes the price being so good it's just rude not to buy! I had that happen with a cookbook yesterday as a matter of fact! We've had Netflix for awhile and I really enjoy it. I think I probably watch more TV shows than movies on it but I watch it all the time on my tablet when I'm cooking dinner and it's fabulous. Have a great week!

  16. I love Netflix...I think I've mentioned that a time or two. I tend to binge, though, a little in the evenings and a lot on the weekends. It does cut into my reading, though.

After massively purging my shelves over the past few months (from 1435 down to 630, and this is print books), I felt so good that I ordered another hardcover book from Amazon...yikes! Is there no stopping me?

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  17. All of your new reads look great. I have a bunch of pre-orders right now so I will probably not be buying again for a while, but who knows. I feel like I owe it to myself to find that book you recently reviewed, Monument 14. It looks really good. I hope you enjoy Scarlet, although I am sure you will. Happy reading!

  18. Hi :) This is my first time taking part in The Sunday Post!

It's definitely easy to get burnt out by taking on too much with your blog. I know I've felt it before and had to cut back for a while. It's so easy to get sucked into all the blog hops, that you don't realise you suddenly have a million things to post/comment/review/etc a day!

I've read the first book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder, but haven't got the others yet. It was a fun read though :)

  19. Scarlet is my favourite book out of the Lunar Chronicles, so I hope you'll enjoy it when you find the time to start Cinder. A quiet week seems like heaven, if you ask me. :)

  24. The Lunar Chronicles is so good! I can't wait for Winter to come out. Speaking of Netflix, I was just watching House of Cards' new season, but decided to stop so I could cook dinner and get ready for Fear the Walking Dead tonight. As for pulling back on your blog tour duties, I completely understand. I was getting into it during the summer, but now that I'm back to work and about to start school, I also want to scale back a bit. Besides, I have so many books of my own I need to read. Sometimes it's just good to take a break. Besides, since you've maintained your relationships it won't be a big deal to go back and do more later on if you change your mind.

  26. Oh yes I know the feeling when it comes to getting bombarded with media releases re blog tours and new releases. I've mainly signed up to mainstream (the bigger) publishers at this stage but seem to still get on PR companies' email lists and the like. Some of the stuff they email me about is of minimal interest.

  27. Sounds great! At least you can have some decent down time now too. I watch 21 Jump Street for the first time last week and loved it! What did you think? To be fair though, everything I've watched with Channing Tatum in has been amazing.
