Meet Roya Stark. She drowns every night in her dreams, spends her hours reading classic literature to avoid her family’s ridicule, and is prone to premonitions—which are becoming more frequent. And now her dreams are filled with strangers offering to reveal what she has always wanted to know: Who is she? That’s the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out. But will Roya live to regret learning the truth?

EXCERPT

“I cannot grant you any more time,” Shuman says. “I need your answer.”
I scan the surface of the water, looking for nothing in particular. She can wait for my answer. She will.
I push my fingers into my eyes and inhale deeply. This duel is inevitable. Zhuang and his challenger’s futures are intertwined. Any attempt to evade the other person will only bring the two together. And somehow I was elected by people I don’t know, for a danger I only recently knew existed. Still none of this makes sense, which is why I know I have to rely on instinct. It’s all I have left. “Fine,” I say a bit pathetically. “I’ll do it.”
A smile would be nice, or maybe a “good for you.” Instead Shuman, who appears to be all business, all the time, begins spouting instructions. “Your next step is to find the Lucidite Institute. Since you are relatively new to dream traveling there are many risks you face.”
No big surprises there.
Shuman continues, “You must dream travel to the Institute while fully submerged in water.”
Um, what? “Are you serious? I’ll drown.”
“There is that risk, yes, but the only way to enter the Institute is through water. To travel there you must return to your body and then immerse yourself in water. I advise you to know you are one with it. It is through this knowledge that you overcome the fear of drowning and focus on the higher task of dream traveling. If you remain calm and focus properly then you will travel and arrive at the Institute. If you are unsuccessful, then yes, you will drown.”
“Oh, is that all? Sounds like a piece of cake.” I’m wondering now if I made the right decision.
Shuman narrows her eyes, but doesn’t respond otherwise.
I rub my temples as an overwhelming pressure erupts behind my eyes. “This is all so strange, it sounds like a recurring dream I’ve been…” My words fall away as the inevitable truth dawns on me. “You put those dreams in my head, didn’t you?” I accuse, staring at her rigid persona.
“The Lucidites are responsible, yes,” she says, her tone matter-of-fact.
“What! That’s insane! That’s awful. Night after night I dreamed I was drowning myself. Do you know how horrifying that is?”
“You should be grateful. We have prepared you for the journey you are about to take. Your subconscious mind has already practiced much of what you are going to do.”
“Grateful!?” I shake my head in disbelief. “I thought I was losing my mind. I didn’t sleep well for weeks. No. I’m not the least bit grateful. You invaded my subconscious,” I spew, more frustrated now than frightened.
Shuman takes a long inhale and says, “Everything that has been done was to protect you and the future.”

Adrenaline by Sunniva Dee

Publication date: April 30th 2015

Genres: New Adult, Romance

CAMERON

Life’s the shit!
Chicks squeal over how wild and yummy I am, play their silly games trying to tie me down. But I’m free as a bird, doing what makes life life: kicking extreme-sport-ass!
I base jump, snowboard, bungee jump. I do anything for the rush.
Then, Ingela blows into town for college—a cool Swedish blast of trouble. Foulmouthed and runway-gorgeous, the girl seeps in like poison and melts the freaking brain.
To Ingela I am what chicks were to me: pastime, leisure, entertainment, pleasure. She’s killing me, and I’m digging it. There’s a new rush in town!Yeah, I hunt down my highs, and now the chase is on. I’ll catch her soon enough, just, what’s the deal with her ex?
BO
With Ingela, sex is a dance. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.
On and off. On and off. Again, she’s wrecked with grief. It’s a reminder of how I destroy her, how crushed relationships shouldn’t be revived.
We’ve done this for years, now, but clearly we’re in for more.
CAMERON
The chase is over. Right here, right now, this is it. Even if it only lasts thirty seconds, the rush of what I’m about to do floods me and makes me feel. It’s so intense, every muscle in my body goes rigid with anticipation.
The air is sharp and early-morning raw. I stare out from my post on an overhang off Firam Peak. Let my eyes judge the steep drop into the ravine on the backside of the mountain. Jagged granite walls form unpredictable patterns that crash to the bottom the way I will soon, and a light dusting of snow contrasts starkly with the somber stone.
I shake my arms. Not to relieve the tension but to make sure I’m nimble and ready. I didn’t invite my friends, Dan and Marek, along today. I’d be better off with someone else around, of course, but nothing compares to the thrill I experience as I step forward alone. I’m on the edge now, in every sense of the word.
I draw in a breath of icy oxygen. Crack my fingers inside my gloves and adjust the strap on my helmet. I’m ready.
It’s so easy to plunge off the cliff. All I do is heave up on my toes and extend my arms. A light bend at the knees and I’m off, flying.
Ah, yes. I fly.
So good.
The wind howls around me. I’m fast—I’ve jumped a dozen times into this ravine so the speed doesn’t surprise me. When we started base jumping, Dan and I would heave ourselves as far out as we could to stay clear of the rock walls during the free-fall. With the velocity you take on, the smallest miscalculation will throw you against the ragged stone, toss you around, and beat you about like a rag doll. It’d be hard to survive.
It gets boring, though, to be careful every time. Which is why, at this point, to get that rush—the woozy bliss inundating my brain for hours afterward—I simply tip off the edge.
The wingsuit I wear is advanced technology. I stretch my arms out to the side, the fabric spanning open at my sides. A familiar sting of disappointment sings through me as I realize I’ll never fly without the squirrel suit. I can’t even begin to imagine the drug it would be to base jump with no security equipment. Straight to death, of course. I chuckle to myself at the thought.
I’m reaching the white ravine floor too quickly. Fuck, I’m lightning fast. The parachute on my back is a click away, but I postpone it, postpone it—
I’m on top of the world!
I’m so fucking alive while I plunge to what could be my last moment on Earth. I curl my body into a somersault and shout my rush out in an echo against the surrounding rock.
“Wooh-hooh!”

Originally from Norway, I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I hold a Master’s degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an adviser.

I write New Adult fiction, sometimes with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” released November 2014. The first book I’ve self-published was the New Adult Contemporary novel “Pandora Wild Child,” which made me a proud indie author in October 28th 2014.

I specialize in impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok. Then, there’s the intense love, physical and emotional attraction beyond reason—sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. Like in real life, I hope you’re unable to predict what comes next in my stories.

Yes, so I write what I love to read, and depending on the reader, you’ll find my books to be a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster—or disturbing because the struggles of love aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have the same reading vice as me!

BLOG TOUR - Treasured Secrets by Kendall Talbot **GIVEAWAY**

Hey and welcome to my blog tour stop for Treasured Secrets by Kendall Talbot, read my review below and enter the giveaway to win an ebook bundle!

From Romantic Book of the Year winner Kendall Talbot comes an adrenaline-fuelled new series introducing sassy sexy characters, exotic locations, and action-packed adventure.

Some secrets should remain hidden forever…

The last place Rosalina expected the clue to a 700-year-old mystery to lead her was back into the arms of Archer, the man who broke her heart. When neither can solve the puzzle without the  other, they set off on a new adventure. They’re forced to ignore the sparks that still fly unhindered between them as their search for the golden riches weaves from Tuscany’s underbelly to Archer’s luxurious yacht in the Greek Islands.

Archer desperately wants to salvage his shattered relationship with Rosalina but fighting for her love soon takes a back seat to fighting for their lives. Ruthless competition is hot on their heels and will do anything to get his hands on the treasure. With evil close on their trail, and Archer wrestling with the remnants of a childhood tragedy, Rosalina begins to wonder if some secrets were never meant to be revealed.

This was a fast paced thrilling read with a good pinch of romance, a dash of mystery and a whole heap of beautiful scenery!

Archer and Rosalina are lovers that have parted ways, fed up with his constant hiding of his past she heads back to Italy.

Archer lives a luxurious life with his own yacht but he has many demons in his past and he can never bring himself to be truly open with Rosalina but the past never wants to stay there and his comes back to haunt him.

A drunken call from Rosalina one night sends Archer across the world to Italy and he hopes to start looking for a treasure from his past and rekindle his relationship, will he be able to do both?

Of course his treasure hunt is not going to go smoothly, some unsavoury types are on his trail as the story moves from Italy to the Greek Islands.

The story moves on very well but of course I'm not going to spoil it for you!  Rosalina and Archer were enjoyable characters to be with, she is typical hot headed Italian and he was definitely more laid back sailor type but together they sizzled and their treasure hunt had almost a little bit of Dan Brown to it.

If you like your romance with a good hint of adventure and mystery then this is for you.

Waiting on Wednesday - The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases.

Title: The Invasion of the Tearling
Author: Erika Johansen
Publisher: Transworld
Released: 9th June 2015

With each passing day, Kelsea Glynn is growing into her new responsibilities as Queen of the Tearling. By stopping the shipments of slaves to the neighbouring kingdom of Mortmesne, she crossed the Red Queen, a brutal ruler whose power derives from dark magic, who is sending her fearsome army into the Tearling to take what is hers. And nothing can stop the invasion.

But as the Mort army draws ever closer, Kelsea develops a mysterious connection to a time before the Crossing, and she finds herself relying on a strange and possibly dangerous ally: a woman named Lily, fighting for her life in a world where being female can feel like a crime. The fate of the Tearling – and that of Kelsea’s own soul – may rest with Lily and her story, but Kelsea may not have enough time to find out.

In this dazzling sequel to her bestselling debut The Queen of the Tearling, Erika Johansen brings back favourite characters, including the Mace and the Red Queen, and introduces unforgettable new players, adding exciting layers to her multidimensional tale of magic, mystery and a fierce young heroine.

I read the first book in this series a couple of months back and I loved it, a truly deceiving book that lures you in to thinking it is almost medieval supernatural story then bam!, it turns out to be a dystopian!  Great characters and great setting, looking forward to book 2!

Legend has it that Paxon Leah is descended from the royals and warriors who once waged war with magical weapons. But those heroes are long gone now, and there is nothing enchanted about the antique sword that hangs above Paxon's fireplace. Paxon leads a quiet life - until extraordinary circumstances overturn his simple world . . . and rewrite his destiny.

When his sister is abducted by a mysterious stranger, Paxon races to her rescue with the only weapon he can find. He is stunned to discover powerful magic unleashed within him - and within his ancestors' ancient blade.

But his formidable new ability is dangerous in untrained hands. Paxon must master it quickly, as his near-fatal clash with a dark sorcerer won't be his last. Leaving behind home and hearth, he journeys to the keep of the Druid order to learn the secrets of magic and earn the right to become their sworn protector . . .

Once more the mark of a great book is the fact it has a kick-ass fellow redhead on the cover, The High Druid's Blade is a great book and Paxon Leah is a kick-ass redhead!

This is my first Terry Brooks book and I can honestly say I really enjoyed it, as well as the redheaded cover, within the first few pages there was a map, I love a map, look at me gushing over a map but when you have a novel that covers a vast area (for example The Lord of the Rings) a map is the way to go, all my favourite books have maps.

So I award one star for redheadedness, another for the map, what makes up the three further stars I am giving this book, well what makes it up is sheer delight, an intoxicating story.

Paxon Leah has led a quiet life, in charge of the family business following his father's death, he lives with his mother and younger sister, a sword that hangs over the fireplace gives a hint of what his descendants once took part in but for now his life is ordinary.

It all changes when his sister is kidnapped by a sinister stranger following a night gambling, unable to pay her debt the stranger abducts her, naturally wanting to find his sister Paxon takes the sword, his only means of defending himself and follows.

He finds his sister but he also finds trouble in the shape of a dark sorcerer, his sister's abductor, a sinister man with an equally sinister agenda.  On freeing his sister he lets his sword do the talking and he finds to his surprise magic is unleashed, magic he does not truly understand but it helps them escape.

Once home Paxon is summoned by the Druid order, his use of magic has been brought to their attention and he needs to be trained properly, magic is dangerous in untrained hands.  With promises of his family being watched over he goes to the Druids and begins his training.

However whilst training he realises that his sister's abduction was a ruse, a ploy to get him and his sword out in the open, the sorcerer who took his sister is after him and is extremely dangerous.

Now I have nothing to compare this to having never read a Terry Brooks novel but it a great story, magic and mystery weave their spells throughout the vast kingdom he has created, the characters are engaging especially Paxon, he goes very capably from leading a humble life to ably coping with all that is thrown at him.

A 5 star read.

REVIEW - My Wonderful World of Fashion by Nina Chakrabarti

Purchased on Amazon.co.uk

Continuing on my quest down the Amazon(.co.uk) to find colouring books to feed my obsession I came across this one, well actually I came across this one plus two others in the series but today its all about this book, Nina Chakrabarti's My Wonderful World of Fashion.

First of all this book is beautiful to look at it pretty, pink and it is massive, I believe it is 200 pages plus in length.

My creative juices were starting to flow and I hadn't even opened the cover yet, once inside you are treated to a visual spectacular, to the younger reader a lot of it may mean nothing such as the reference to many of the world's fashion houses but to the older reader it is a pure delight, for the budding fashion designer there are blank spaces to put your own creations, fabrics to doodle upon, accessories to make your mark upon.

Plus its not just plain white paper inside there are bright pink pages that I cannot wait to fill in.  The paper itself is nice and thick, I have not used pens upon it yet so I can't vouch for them but I have used Koh-i-Noor Magic pencils and they looked great, well I think they did anyway!

There is so much fun to be had with this book and it'll last for ages too, as it says it is a book for creating, dreaming and drawing, my only problem is keeping it away from 8 year old!
