RANDOM RAMBLINGS - It's about time or the lack of it.....

Time.....it is something that is very important to us all, as soon as we wake up we are aware of it and our lives can be controlled by it.

But before I start my ramble here is Doctor Who to put his spin on time....

Yep, the man with the biggest brain in the universe really does have a way with words.  Anyway my opinion of time is more like this....

I like to consider myself a reasonably organised person but hell, I just feel like I have no time, I work full time, I have two small kids, a husband, a dog and a ton of books that need my attention!!!

I am not looking for sympathy I am just wondering how do you all do it? Drugs? Red Bull? A lightning fast typing ability? Time Travel?

As I reach my second blogoversary I am struggling to post more than a couple of times a week at the moment which pains me.
Blogging isn't meant to be a second job to me, it is supposed to be my hobby but I think I am starting to suffer from the dreaded bloggers guilt which I know I shouldn't.

So I am asking you, how do you organise you family / work / blog balance? Is scheduling (which I have already proved useless at during a challenge last year) the way to go?

What am I missing? Tell me more?!!!

  1. Drugs and Red Bull sound good. Okay joking. I used to post a few times a week and lately I've been posting almost daily, which amazes even me. I know it won't last :) but the only way it's working is I scheduled a bunch of stuff ahead a while back, so I have a cushion. But yeah it's hard w/ work and stuff. I spend a lot of time at night writing stuff up but then I'm a night owl...

  2. That my dear, is the million dollar question lol. With my old book blog I did try to be a daily poster and blogging extraordinaire. That led to big time burnout and I ended up deleting my blog and walking away for a year. Now I'm back with a new blog and a much more laid back approach to blogging. I'm aiming to post 2-3 times a week, but right now I'm spring cleaning/painting a bunch of rooms in my house and I only have one post done for next week, so that's all I'm going to post, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Blogging is an unpaid hobby and I'll get to it when I have the extra time and motivation. And I refuse to feel guilt for that :)

    1. You have put that wonderfully! I think I have trying to overdo it and the best thing to do is relax and have fun!

  3. Well, I will just say... if I had two small children, a full time job, a dog, and a husband, I would probably only be posting NEVER! I probably wouldn't have a blog. I do not know how you do it. I normally only have to go into work on Mondays to pick up my work packet, so the rest of the week I have no commute, unless we are wrapping up a project and then I have to go in all week, but that is only about four times a year! Plus my son is grown, although I still have to cook dinner most every night and he can make a royal mess or two around the house. But still, yeah, I don't know how you find time to read, let alone blog! So you are doing damn good in my opinion. :)

  4. I have four kids and work part-time. I just use blogging as my hobby, but I am passionate enough about it that I make time. I do not use any kind of schedule. I think I work better under pressure..?
I have been blogging since 2009 (bok blogging since 2014), it was harder in the beginning. I don't know how I make time honestly. I just don't watch as much tv, only blog (i mean write the actual post, not just sitting there staring at the blank screen struggling with what to say) when I really want to, and read whenever possible. As soon as I finish a book I write the review. If I don't have anything to review I join a meme. When I loose inspiration I read a lot of other blogs. (i mean i do that anyways, but when i need inspiration especially) I get so inspired seeing beautiful blogs and reading those posts. I am weird in that I even love to read reviews.
I know you will get your mojo back, just hang in there. If you only post twice a week that's okay. A lot of bloggers only post once or twice a week. It's your blog, you can set your own schedule.

    1. Thanks Karen, It is my hobby too and I need to realise it is a hobby, sometimes it feels like a second job which is why I stopped doing so many blog tours etc (rookie mistake). I need to get in to better habits!! Like writing a review straight away!!

  5. I don't work so I spend the day on the computer but I never seem to find time to get book reviews, blog visits, answering comments and other stuff done. I'm not quite sure how the time is sucked from the day. Of course cooking, cleaning, housework and shopping all come into that equation too. After dinner, I go up to my room and read for about 4 hours. That's pretty much my schedule. Sometimes I get more reading time but that's rare. Thankfully I'm a fast reader...If I worked and had kids, I wouldn't have a blog either!

  6. Ugh I feel like at some points I have a lot of free time to blog and that is when I try and schedule as much as possible. The struggle is real though. It is hard to do it all!! When you find the magical answer let us all know ok?

  7. 1) It helps if you have no life :) No social life at any rate (ha ha, I work nights, eep!)
    2) No family kids wise so I can't comment on that.
    3) If my parents interrupt me when I'm on a "blogging roll" I simply tell them "I'm blogging" and they leave me alone... if they don't... GRRR! Blogging Monster comes out to play!

I do schedule to a degree. I actually cheat a little bit now'er-days. If I meant to post, say a meme on a certain date, and I miss it... I'll make the post and backdate it lol. Providing I'm still on the same week! E.g. I missed Thursdays meme and it's now Saturday, I'll post it as a Thursday post (cheating!!) and pretend you all missed it :P lol. Oops! Naughty Amy! I don't do it a lot, but if I'm busy I do. I do the same for reviews sometimes.

    I hope this helps!

  8. I don't work full time and I even struggle with the balance sometimes. Keeping on top of things is one of the hardest things to do. Scheduling did help me for a while, but now I'm so behind it's hard to come back up ahead, haha. I feel guilt sometimes but then I think that we do the best that we can do.

  9. I feel you! I've been a stay at home mom for two years and I feel like I have LESS time than I did when I worked M-F 7-6. How???? I have no solutions for you, some days shit just doesn't get done, other days it does...

  10. Personally, I only post three times a week and then a video once a week just because of that factor that you mention - time. I don't have enough of it with school and training and all that. I have a calendar and I try my best to abide by it, and I also don't really sleep that much because I don't really like sleep. But I do get enough. As for reading, I multitask a lot! I read on my kindle while I am in class sometimes because if I am ONLY listening I fall asleep. And yes, I can read and listen at the same time. I also read while I eat breakfast and brush my teeth and stuff because I don't have time otherwise :P

    1. I love sleep but am constantly tired. You are such a multi tasker, I wish I could listen to audio books but they just don't do it for me!

  11. I think staying on top of everything is really hard sometimes, Heather! It's difficult to find the time to do all we need to do, and still have time for some fun as well. I do consider my blogging to be fun, though, and I only do that when I feel like it. It's OK to post a little less for a while - or even forever - as long as you are still around at least once a week. I know I don't have the time to check on all the blogs I follow every single day, but I love catching up :)
I'm a very fast reader, and I type fairly fast, too, so that's a big plus for me. However, it's not always easy to find the right moment to write a review or a discussion post, because books. Sleep. Food... you know ;)
Good luck on finding your balance!

  12. I honestly don't understand how some people do it! I haven't been super busy lately, so I've been able to post a lot, but I'm getting busier now, and I'm already getting stressed. And I don't even have kids or a husband to worry about! I'm going to try and make a schedule to do certain things on certain days rather than trying to do everything every day. I think the little-bit-of-everything-in-day method is overwhelming me. And the other week I took a short two-day blogging break, and I think I'm going to do that every so often so that I get a small break without feeling like I'm neglecting the blog completely. So that's my "advice," if you can even call it that since it's fairly untested at this point, haha.

    1. That's a good idea Kristen, an occasional mini break is not a bad idea, ideally I would like to blog on set nights and I am going to try and get in to the habit!
