WHY?..........Can't I Spell Anymore..........#BookbloggerProblems

I dread to think to how many words I have typed out since I started this blog back in early 2014, must be millions, billions - I suppose there is a handy app somewhere that could tell me that sort of thing if it really bothered me - it doesn't.

Anyway I digress (also an excuse to put Jensen in there), today I want to talk about spelling and why at the extremely young age of 37, my spelling is going to pot, like totally randomly all to hell.

I mean some of the things I have thankfully caught myself about to spell incorrectly are quite frankly shocking and embarrassing.

Why the downfall?

I can only assume it is because of the following things-

  • Did I mention I am the very young age of 37, so therefore my brain cells are just scrambled.

  • I have kids, kids are noisy and distracting, did I mention they are noisy?

  • Time, or the lack of it, I find myself typing at bazillion words per second and then looking up and finding I have typed something along the line of hdfkj skjsdhfkdjhf jhskdufhasdf suhsdf.

  • Multi-tasking, I am woman, therefore I multi task, I often blog whilst ironing and cleaning.

I have found myself struggling to remember how to spell basic word and considering I was top speller at primary school it is very bad show indeed.

Examples of my bonkers spelling and bad grammar (yes I am fucking up there too) have included-

Reveiw - FFS I can't even spell one of the main reasons of my blog properly.

Mane - Correct if you are a horse but not if you want to say main.

Their - I used it incorrectly it was something like - their is the something or other, I am so ashamed.

These are just the tip of the ocean, I just find myself happily typing away and all of sudden wham, my spelling skills go right our the window.

Am I the only one in this lonely boat of bad spellers or has anyone else found their wordiness going down the plughole?

  1. I, too, find my spelling abilities going down the drain. I thought primary for years, and now that I'm teaching 5th I'm having difficulty spelling words beyond a third grade level. I was also a top speller in school, and had a great vocabulary. I don't know what happened!

    1. I think we just have so much going on these days, spelling goes down the pecking order in our brains!

  2. I think this happens to all of us. I'm often spelling things wrong just because I'm typing too fast, but thankfully auto correct tends to point out most of these mistakes! Granted, I don't really notice too much in other people's posts because I'm not looking for them!

  4. I'm so with you Heather! My spelling, grammar, and all that jazz was superb. I could bust out intelligent shit. lol. Now, it's like ... meh. I don't know if it's because I'm not exercising my brain as hard like I was in college and right after, or what. I can still pull it together, but it takes more concentration than it used to. And my mind definitely goes faster than I can type, so sometimes words are all jumbled. Like my mind will be on sentence three, but I'm still typing sentence one, so sentence two will come out as a jumble of both. lol.

  5. I think part of the time we think spellcheck is going to get it, but words gust like mane, are still words. Ha ha. My problem is wantng words like: even though to be "eventhough", and in fact to be "infact", there are others, but I can't think of them now. Oh wait of course... ofcourse. XD

  8. LOL, I tend to think faster than I type.I find it best never to re-read anything I have written..lol With posts I write them, spell check and schedule them 30 plus days in advance. The night before I do a re-read and I am always surprised by the stupid errors I find. You and You're get me sometimes and if I am on my smartphone..forgettaboutit.

  9. Haha, I think my spelling abilities are ok for now, though having spellchecks does help! When I get overtired though, I know better than to even try typing because the typos and misspellings just go crazy. I have to go back and fix like every word. Although the other day I couldn't remember how to spell "eighth." It just didn't look right, and I couldn't figure it out lol.

  10. LOL definitely not alone in that though I was never a great speller. I did a post a while back of words I hate because I can NEVER get them right. They drive me bonkers. But I do misspell simple ones as well now and again. Usually because I'm typing fast and watching tv at the same time as I blog and I wind up typing how they sound instead of are spelled. Oys!

  11. I suck at spelling or maybe typing. I make so many typo's when typing. And sometimes I just have no clue how to write a word even though I must have seen it a lot. And words like dessert or desert get to me every time.

    1. Dessert and desert are bad, there are too many words that should just have the one spelling!

  12. I actually am someone who hates proof-reading. I don't make too many spelling mistakes, but when I do - they are painfully left on display for ages because I hate proof-reading my work... I actually lose some points in exams that way because I don't want to check over what I've written! So I should start doing that :P

    1. I have to proof read plus I do it a lot at work as I write descriptions of things so I always automatically do it, I hate doing it but if I don't urgh the mistakes!

  13. I am a huge multitasker and sometimes discover that I have typed random words that were in my head and have nothing to do with what I am supposed to be writing about. In this day and age, adults rarely focus on one thing at a time anymore.

    1. I can't focus on one thing, I mean I am typing this whilst telling my dog off and watching tv!

  14. You are hilarious. I find myself relying heavily on spellcheck to tell me how to spell stuff. I type words I like to spell to replace words that don't come easily. I don't know how many times I typed books instead of both or bother and read instead of ready, even in texts. (i am ready to read, lol)
I am always multi-tasking as well.
    Great post!
